Welcome back sophomore seawolves!
Beginning today, we will devote our time in SophoMorphology to the study of 1984. This novel imagines a dystopian future (though the year 1984 is obviously long past in our minds) in which a government run by a "fearless leader" called Big Brother controls the way its citizens think and act.
The protagonist, Winston Smith, will rise up against Big Brother and challenge the oppressive system of government.
Your first mission, young revolutionaries, is to create a presentation that examines the following questions:
1. When is it time to rise up against one's country?
2. How far would you, personally, have to be pushed before you would turn against your government? What policy changes would drive you to risk your freedom and/or life?
3. Choose a revolutionary leader--Thomas Jefferson, MLK, Ghandi, Bob Dylan, Nelson--and provide an overview of his/her struggle against authority. Why did this person rise up in protest? What did he/she accomplish? How did the government/authority react to this person?

1. When that country leaders are being total asshole against their people.
2. When my rights are taken away. For examples if they take my rights to speak my mind away i will start killing some people.
3. George Washington, he struggle to free America from British control. They both when in to war and he won the freedom for America.
1) When a country begins to take away the rights that you should have as a human being, then you should rise up. When a country starts to speak your mind for you,And decide what you will do next and how you will act, thats when it is time to react.
2)I would begin to turn on my government when i noticed that My family or I was being severly affected by their rule or reign. If my government began to take away certain things that I felt as though I deserved or have the right to have, then I would strike back... Like a cobra
3)I am choosing MLK for my project. I am choosing him because this is a man that rose up against a government and a number of people who had pure hatred for them because of he color of their skin. MLK saw this and took action, he risked his life so that blacks today could stand tall and be equal amoung the rest of the world.. Thank You Martin
1. It is time to rise up against your country when rules are getting more harsh and the consequences get close to death.
2. Once my voice doesn't get heard by the country and its a rule that we can't speak or we'll be in jail.
3.MLK rose to protest because the blacks were getting treated terribly and the USA was segregated and the nation needed to hear something special or nothing would have been done. MLK accomplished a slow rise in followers and rule changes in the community. The authority changed the rules so that schools and towns weren't segregated. By decade, more people started to believe that white men and black men are equal.
1. It is time to rise up against one's country when one's basic rights and freedoms that everybody is entitled to is taken away and the country's or region's leader procures control over all of one's actions and thoughts.
2. When my deserved rights are taken away, such as the right to work and the right to be properly educated.
3. As stated by Thomas Jefferson, "A little rebellion every now and then is a good thing." Jefferson's struggle against authority exemplifies his desire to make the world and America and better place. He protested the general principals of the American government which were only having negative effects on people. He accomplished civil rights for human beings, and since he was the authority, the people's and followers reactions were positive.
1) When a country starts to use their power to the governments advantage. Also when a country government uses their power in a way that they act so much superior. If they start taking away your freedom by making so many more strict laws. It is time to fight for your individuality and freedom.
2) I would turn on my government when i knew that something was wrong, and when i didn't believe in what they were doing. If they started to watch my every move i would turn on them, because people need their privacy and space to just get away for a couple minutes.
3)I am choosing Angela Ruggiero for my revolutionary leader. She may not have gone to war or taken the enemies side in a war. However, she did what everyone thought would be impossible. She was the first women to play in the NHL. She risked her status as a person and her freedom. Many people discriminate against women and playing professional sports, but angela went against all odds!
