Troy disagrees with Cory about football, because he believes that he is only going to waste his time. He uses his own experience as a good example when he talks about how baseball never really took him anywhere in life. Troy believes that Cory should be working, just like he did when he was a kid, instead of spending his time enjoying himself. Troy is correct, because so far football has done nothing beneficial for Cory. He lost his job, and has fallen far behind on his household chores because of football.

Troy is right and what he did was ok because he knows that football will not take him anywhere through personal experience. Also, he is right because football won't get food on the table. A real job would. All he is trying to do is help out Cory later in life.

Troy is correct in saying that Cory should not play football. It will not help him succeed later in life and can only last so long. Once Cory's football career would come to an end, where would he go from there. It is too many risks to be taking with football as a career choice. Essentially, Troy doesn't want Cory to end up like him. He wants his son to get a good job, support his own family some day, and be able to stand on his own without wobbling. With this, Troy is correct in not wanting his son to play football because he believes that it will not get him anywhere in life and that Cory would, someday, end up like him.
Troy- "The colored guy got to be twice as good before he can get on the team. That's why I don't want you to get all tied up in them sports."

Troy disagrees with Rose and says that Cory should not play football. In the long run, playing football will not get Cory anywhere in life. At this point in history, racism and segregation are still major factors in life. If Cory were to play football, "The colored guy got to be twice as good before he can get on the team." Also, when Cory is older and done with football he will have no where else to go. Troy is right in saying that he should be studying cars so he could be a mechanic and have that skill all his life, not just a portion like football. Troys decision is also justifiable due to the fact that Cory disobeyed and then lied to Troy about his job at the A&P. Cory needs to be honest and keep his word if he wants something, telling his father he is going t work after school and weekends and then not work is wrong. You do not lie to your parents and especially at this point in history when family structure was taken very seriously.

Cory's should definitely be able to play college football if he wants to. Going to college for football is a great opportunity for Cory, not only because there is a possibility of playing football professionally, which is very well paying, but also because he gets a college education and would be able to get an even better job after college than he would working at the local convenience store. Also, because he is being recruited as a football player, he would not have to pay any money to attend the school, and he would have a free college education and would be able to support his family after college with a better paying job than if he hadn't gone to college.

Apparently if a recruiter is coming down to see Cory play he should be able to play. Cory is correct because all people have the chance to play now. It's not how it was when Troy was playing baseball. The only reasons that Troy doesnt wasnt cory to play football is because he doesnt finish his chores, work at A&Ps, and because hes black. Cory is correct because there really isnt enough time to do school, football and work. If cory is good enough to get recruited then football is more important than work.

I believe that Cory is correct because everyone should have the right to go after what they truly believe in. Cory has been offered a great opportunity to succeed in what he does best and Troy is only holding back this dream. Troy is very possibly against Cory playing football because he is jealous and never got that far with his baseball career. Cory's love for football could take him very far in life, opening many doors to different colleges and scholarships. If he is just working at the A&P and possibly studying cars his whole life, he really isn't living his life to the fullest. Cory would be doing what his dad wants him to do, not what he really wants to do. Troy should not make decisions for Cory, he should let him go after what he wants.

Troy is right because Football isn't really a legitimite job. Being a sport players is pretty high risk as if injury occurs or as Cory gets olders his carrer could be done for. And from Troy's experience, Cory is also black so he have to encounter the same problem as Troy.

Troy does not want his son to give up his job for football because he does not believe that anyone is going to give him a fair chance and a real opportunity to make a career out of it. Troy himself says how he tried to play baseball and was never given any opportunity to become pro because he was black, even though he says he is better then most of the professionals out there at the time. He does not want his son to have to go through the same thing, and waste so much time for a dream he can't even fulfill. Also, like with anything that relies on physical strength, it will eventually fade, and then he will be left with nothing. Troy just wants his son to get a steady job and become successful in something that no one can take away.

There is a disagreement between Troy and Cory about pursuing football practice, because Troy believes that Cory should stop playing football. Taking long terms of view, playing football will not help Cory to be successful in the future. Considering that this story describes around 1950’s, racism was one of the major issues around at that time. Very few colored men played sports in a professional team, and in order to play, “the colored guy got to be twice as good before he can get on the team." Also, Cory should obey and respect Troy’s idea, because it is Troy who offers everything Cory needs, and Troy’s family is not financially stable and sufficient. “You live in my house, sleep you behind my bedclothes, fill you belly up with my food cause you my son.” Cory is young and still has been protected by his parents. If Cory wants to play football, then he firstly has to get a job to support his family. However, Cory lies to his father.“The boy lied to me. I told the nigger if he wanna play football to hold down that job at A&P.”

Cory is correct in wanting to go after his dreams in playing football. His dad should not stop him because he wants him to work at the A&P. Cory should go after his dream that looks like a bright future and not be held back by working at the A&P. His dad should let the recruiter come and have his son play professional football.

Troy is correct to keep Cory away from college football. In the time period in which this story takes place black people and white people were not equal. Therefore, if Cory went to college to play football nothing good would come out of it. He will sit on the bench and watch others play over him. Or he will play and be put under a ton of pressure and would not be able to focus on his studies. Unfortunately, he would be thought less of then everyone else, and his Dad doesn't want him to have to go through that. He could be finding a steady job, start a family, and be able to support them. Instead of playing football, which wont get him anywhere. Football would just allow Cory to have a few more years without work, and just some more time to himself to play a game. When he should just go into the reality of life, which is work.

Troy is correct because as Cory's father, Troy knows what is best for his son. When Troy was younger, he was an exceptionaly good baseball player and nothing ever happened with his talent because of his skin color. This taught Troy that it is necessary to be able to do something else besides play a sport. Even if Cory were to pursue football, he wouldn't be trained to do anything once he was finished playing. Troy is right when he says " He ought to go and get recruited in how to fix cars or something where he can make a living" because fixing cars will give Cory a better income than football will.

Troy is correct in saying that Cory should not play football. If Cory relied on football as his only career in life and didn't focus on other parts of his education he would be living a very narrow-minded life. If Cory did happen to make it far in football but ended up becoming injured he would not have anything to turn to, seeing as the only thing he focused on was football. Troy is right wanting Cory to work instead of play sports. Troy tells Cory about how he never made it anywhere in life with baseball and that if Cory focuses on working he is bound to succeed. With football, Cory has a chance of failure, but if he focuses on work he is bound to succeed. Troy's advice is correct and Cory should focus on making his life about work.

Cory has a great oppurtunity and I think Troy should let him play. Cory has the chance to get a college education and compete at a high level of football. After college Cory well have the chance to get a good secure job. Once he gets this Job he can then support his family.I think Troy is jealous that Cory has a good oppurtunity and thats the reason why he won't let Cory play.

Troy doesn't want Cory to play football because he believes he is wasting his time, and more importantly, missing an oppurtunity to get a head start in life. He constantly remembers how racist the times are and knows that Cory will inevitably be turned down and hurt. On top of that, he is mad about the fact that Cory doesn't have a job and also isn't doing his basic chores from around the house.

Troy is right in that Cory should not play football. Troy has been in Cory's situation and knows what is best for him. Cory should focus on school and his job if he wants to succeed in life. Baseball never took Troy any where, so why would it support a career for Cory? When Cory is in football, he loses his job, falls behind on his chores, and starts backtalking his parents. Even after Troy tells Cory that he can play football if he keeps up his chores and job, Cory disobeys Troy. Cory shouldn't play football because he disobeyed his father and isn't holding his own in the house.

Troy disagrees with his son to play football or not because he wants his son to work, and also he doesnt want his son to be better than him at sports. He is right because in the 50's all that mattered was whether or not you had a son to carry on your name and your job. If Cory goes to play football then he wont have a job. Also black people are dicriminated agianst at this time on the football field. So Cory should work at A&P instead of college.

Cory is being recuited for football. being recuited from a college means that he would not have to pay for attending the college. He would go to college get a great education and have a chance at playing on a professional team after college which pays way better than the convience store at the end of the road. Troy is stuck in the age where sports won't take any black man anywhere but now a black man or women is allowed to play and is accepted. This is a great chance for cory and he should take this chance at a real education and a chance to prove troy wrong and show him how the world is changing. even though the men coaching him are white that does not mean they are trying to hurt him. this is his chance to change his life and do something with it.

Cory should attend college not only because he will be able to play football, something that he loves, but he wil lalso be able to get a great education. He will not have to work low paying jobs like his father does, he will be able to succeed. Going to college would be huge for him because he will be able attend a school for no cost, and in the end will work out only for the better for him.

I agree with Cory for playing football instead of working at the A and P. Cory will be able to have a college education and will benefit more from that expierence than picking up a minimum wage job. He will in the end make more money by recieving a college degree. The only reason why Cory's Dad disagrees with him because he remembers playing baseball and not having any opportunites because of the color of his skin. What Cory's dad doesn't recongize is that times have changed and the color of your skin does not matter. I believe playing football will benefit Cory in many ways, not only for his football career, but also his education.

Troy is correct because as he has seen in his life football in those days did nothing to help put food on the table. The football teams would only have used his skills to win football games and pay him nothing. Even though cory would love to play foot ball at a higher level he knows that it would not feed his family like a good paying job would. It is a sad truth but they realized that it was the best decision tat they could have made to help their family.
